The Echo is a horror movie released in 2008 directed by Yam Laranas. The movie follows Bobby Reynolds (Jesse Bradford), a young ex-convict who moves into an old apartment building in order to start his life anew. The building is also home to an array of eccentric characters, including a friendly neighbor named Gina (Amelia Warner). However, Bobby starts experiencing strange occurrences in his apartment like noises from a neighboring unit that seems to become louder and louder with every passing day. To make matters worse, the noises seem to be connected to a tragic event that happened in the same building years ago.
As the noises become unbearable, Bobby discovers that his neighbor, a battered woman named Anna (Iza Calzado), has gone missing and soon becomes obsessed with uncovering what happened to her. As he investigates, he realizes that a malevolent force has taken over the apartment building and is using the echoes of a violent past to torment the residents. Bobby must race against time to unravel the mystery before the same fate befalls him.
The Echo combines the usual elements of horror like intense suspense and jump scares with a focus on the psychological trauma experienced by the victims of a gruesome past event. The movie received mixed reviews but was appreciated by fans of psychological horror and became a cult classic in the genre.
