The Duellists, directed by Ridley Scott, is a historical drama that explores the psychology of dueling and the long-lasting effects of personal grudges. As they fight each other repeatedly over the years, they both suffer from the toll of their personal vendetta. Feraud becomes increasingly unstable, while d'Hubert grows disillusioned with the military and its codes of honor. Finally, during the Russian campaign in 1812, they face each other for what may be the last time.
The Duellists is a visually stunning film, and is noted for its evocative depictions of the Napoleonic era and its meticulous attention to historical detail.
