Nellie (played by Lena Headey) is devastated when she learns that she is infertile, which leads to her husband Jack (played by Joseph Kell) divorcing her. Nellie is left with no money as her savings have been plundered by someone posing as her using her previously married name, Eleanor Kendall. With the help of her bank officer lover Dave (played by Andrew McCarthy), Nellie tries to track down the impostor who stole her identity and money.
The trail leads them to Montreal, where Nellie meets British doctor Christopher Dolan (played by Christopher Judge) at a conference. The pair begins a passionate affair, which complicates Nellie's search for the impostor. However, she does eventually find Eleanor (played by Gillian Ferrabee), who is a local French tutor and single mother. Instead of turning her in, Nellie becomes friends with her, but the truth eventually catches up to both of them.
It turns out that Eleanor was not actually the one who stole Nellie's identity and money – it was her ex-husband Jack. He had faked his own death and disappeared, leaving behind a trail of fraudulent activity. Nellie and Eleanor end up teaming up to try to track down Jack and get back Nellie's money.
