The Ultimate Revenge: Baduk Redemption

Action  South Korea

The Divine Move is a South Korean action thriller movie directed by Jo Bum-gu, and released in 2014. The movie has an ensemble cast, with actors like Jung Woo-sung, Lee Beom-soo, Ahn Sung-ki, Kim In-kwon, and Choi Jin-hyuk, among others.

The movie starts with Tae-seok, a professional baduk (go) player, who loses a high-stakes game to Sal-soo, an infamous underground gambler. Sal-soo then frames Tae-seok for the murder of his own brother and gets him incarcerated in prison. Tae-seok, after serving his sentence, vows to take revenge against Sal-soo.

Tae-seok reconnects with Tricks, his brother's former associate, and seeks help from The Lord, a blind master player who lives as a recluse. He also befriends Mok-su, a skillful junkyard owner. Together, they form a plan to get back at Sal-soo and his men.

Tae-seok gradually infiltrates Sal-soo's inner circle and his gambling joint. He starts eliminating Sal-soo's men one by one. Meanwhile, Tricks and Mok-su provide Tae-seok with the necessary resources and information. The Lord also trains and advises Tae-seok on how to manipulate the game of baduk to his advantage.

As Tae-seok gets closer to his ultimate goal, Sal-soo discovers his real identity and engages him in a final game of baduk. The game becomes a battle of wit and strategy between the two men, with Tae-seok's life and revenge hanging in the balance.

The Divine Move is a visually stylish and well-executed movie that combines elements of action, revenge, and thriller genres with the game of baduk. The movie highlights the importance of planning, strategy, and execution in both the game and life. The movie also has an emotional core, as Tae-seok seeks to avenge the death of his brother and redeem his own name.
