The Disappearance of Alice Creed is a 2009 British thriller film directed by J Blakeson. The movie follows the story of a wealthy businessman's daughter, Alice Creed (Gemma Arterton), who is kidnapped by two men, Vic (Eddie Marsan) and Danny (Martin Compston).
The film begins with the meticulous preparations of the two kidnappers as they buy the supplies, gather the tools and rent the apartment where they plan to hold Alice. When the movie opens, we see Alice being snatched off the street, thrown into the trunk of a car and taken to the apartment.
Once inside, Alice is bound, gagged and blindfolded. Her captors demand a ransom of two million pounds from her father, but they soon realize that Alice's father will not be an easy target when he starts using his resources to track down his daughter.
As the kidnappers' plans begin to unravel, the power dynamic shifts between the captors and hostage. The tension builds as they all struggle to maintain control over the situation, with each person having their own secrets and motivations.
Director J Blakeson masterfully builds suspense and tension throughout the movie, keeping the audience on the edge of their seats until the very end. The performances by the small cast are captivating, particularly Eddie Marsan as Vic, the older and more experienced of the two kidnappers, and Gemma Arterton, who shines as the tough, intelligent and resourceful Alice Creed.
