The Descendants is a 2011 American drama film directed by Alexander Payne and starring George Clooney. It is based on the novel of the same name by Kaui Hart Hemmings.
The film follows Matt King, a successful lawyer and descendant of Hawaiian royalty, who is forced to confront the reality of his life when his wife Elizabeth is hospitalized after a boating accident. He is faced with the difficult decision of whether or not to take her off life support. At the same time, he discovers that Elizabeth was having an affair with a young real estate broker, and he decides to track him down with his two daughters, Alexandra and Scottie.
