The Death of Dick Long follows the story of two friends, Zeke and Earl, who are involved in a tragic accident while spending a night out with their bandmate, Dick. Dick is killed in the accident and Zeke and Earl are desperate to hide the truth of what happened. They dump Dick's body on the front lawn of his home and hope that nobody will discover what they have done.
However, the two friends soon find themselves under intense scrutiny as the news of Dick's death starts to spread throughout their small Alabama town. As the local police begin to investigate, they find a series of strange clues that seem to suggest that something more sinister may have happened that night.
