The film is a Spanish black comedy horror movie directed by Alex de la Iglesia and released in 1995. The story follows the priest, Father Angel Berriartua (played by Alex Angulo), who becomes convinced that the Antichrist will be born on Christmas Day in Madrid. In an attempt to prevent this, he teams up with a death metal aficionado, Jose Maria (Santiago Segura), and the host of a television show on the occult, Professor Cavan (Armando De Razza).
The trio embarks on a wild journey, involving transvestite prostitutes, heavy metal music, and satanic rituals. They break into a cathedral, steal a baby, and travel to a secret location to perform an exorcism. As Christmas approaches, their mission becomes more urgent, and they face numerous obstacles, including the police, a group of Satanists, and their own inner demons.
The Day of the Beast is known for its subversive humor, graphic violence, and inventive special effects. It was a critical and commercial success, winning six Goya Awards (the Spanish equivalent of the Oscars) and earning a cult following.
