The Dark Red

Thriller  N/A

The Dark Red is a psychological thriller directed by Dan Bush, released in March 2020. The movie revolves around a young woman named Sybil Warren (April Billingsley), who is admitted to a psychiatric hospital after showing signs of aggression and delusional behavior. While under observation, Sybil claims that her newborn son was stolen by members of a dark cult called the Black Claw.

Despite the skepticism of the staff and Sybil's own mother (Kelsey Scott), Sybil's story persists and becomes more and more detailed. She explains that the cult is led by a man named Dr. Deighton (Bernard Setaro Clark), who kidnapped her son as part of a ritual to bring about a prophesied "dark red" apocalypse.

As Sybil's mental state deteriorates and she begins to experience hallucinations and memory loss, her story is further complicated by the arrival of a journalist named Leah (Conal Byrne). Leah, who is investigating the disappearance of Sybil's child, becomes increasingly involved in the case and uncovers evidence that suggests the Black Claw may be more than just a figment of Sybil's imagination.

The film builds to a climactic confrontation between Sybil and Dr. Deighton, as well as a twist ending that reveals the true nature of Sybil's powers and the cult's intentions. Throughout the film, The Dark Red explores themes of mental illness, motherhood, and the blurred line between reality and delusion.
