In The Cyclops, the test pilot who goes missing is named Bruce Barton. A millionaire named Susan Winter organizes a search party to find him in the jungles of Mexico. Along with Susan, the search party includes Bruce's ex-fiancée, a scientist, and a pilot.
As they trek through dense jungle terrain, they eventually come across a valley that has been affected by radiation. They soon discover that Bruce has survived the crash but has been mutated into a giant one-eyed monster due to the radiation exposure.
As they try to rescue Bruce, the search party encounters numerous dangerous creatures mutated by the radiation, including insects and lizards. They push on deeper into the valley, eventually coming face to face with the hulking Cyclops. The Cyclops, however, turns out to be less malevolent than expected, and is instead simply trying to protect its territory.
Susan and the rest of the party decide that the Cyclops must be put down in order to prevent it from harming anyone, so they leave Bruce behind and focus on killing the beast. However, the Cyclops proves to be a formidable foe, and not everyone makes it out of the valley alive.
Eventually, the survivors manage to escape and report what happened in the valley. While the story of the giant Cyclops and other mutated creatures garners significant attention, it is ultimately decided that the valley is too dangerous to explore further, and it remains a forbidden zone.
