CW Briggs (played by Woody Allen) is a skilled and experienced insurance investigator working for a company called North Coast Casualty. He has a reputation for being successful in solving cases and retrieving lost items. However, he is also known for being a bit cantankerous and difficult to work with.

Enter Betty Ann Fitzgerald (played by Helen Hunt), a new hire at North Coast Casualty who has been brought in to streamline the office and improve efficiency. Betty and CW clash immediately due to their differing approaches to work and their personality differences.

One night, the office staff goes out to see a performance by Voltan (played by David Ogden Stiers), a renowned magician. During the show, Voltan secretly hypnotizes both CW and Betty, convincing them that they are deeply in love with each other. The next day, when they wake up, they are both shocked to find themselves in a seemingly different part of their lives.

As a result of the hypnosis, Betty begins to act flirtatious and romantic towards CW, despite her initial dislike for him. At the same time, CW becomes infatuated with Betty and starts to act out of character, even breaking the law to try and impress her.

Meanwhile, a series of jewel thefts are taking place in the city, and North Coast Casualty is hired to investigate. As they work together on the case, Betty and CW must navigate their newfound feelings for each other while trying to solve the mystery and catch the thief.

The Curse of the Jade Scorpion is a classic Woody Allen film filled with witty dialogue, slapstick humor, and a touch of romance.
