The Cured follows the story of Senan (played by Sam Keeley), a man who becomes infected during the outbreak and is sent to a rehabilitation center after the cure is discovered. Senan is able to re-enter society, but he is haunted by memories of his time as a violent, flesh-eating zombie. Society is divided between former zombies who have been cured and those who never contracted the virus, and tensions are high.
Senan struggles to reintegrate into society as he faces discrimination and hostility from those still angry about the events of the outbreak. He finds solace in rekindling his relationship with Abbie (played by Ellen Page), the sister of his deceased best friend. Abbie is a vocal advocate for the reintegration of the cured, but she is also dealing with her own grief and trauma from losing loved ones during the outbreak.
As they navigate their complicated relationship and the challenges of reintegration, a faction of the cured who have not fully recovered begin to cause chaos and threaten to undo all the progress that has been made. Senan is caught between his loyalty to Abbie and his desire to fit in with the cured community, and must find a way to prevent another outbreak while holding on to his humanity.
The Cured is a thought-provoking and intense film that explores the themes of forgiveness, redemption, and the complexities of human nature.
