The doctor-mentalist, named Terry-Thomas, becomes a suspect when a woman who he pointed out as a potential victim is found dead. When the police investigate him, they find out that he has a criminal past and was even once involved in a murder trial. Terry-Thomas confesses to the murder of a wealthy businessman whom he claims has wronged him in the past.
However, the police do not take him seriously as the murder has not yet taken place. But soon after, several dead bodies turn up in the city, and all of them have been killed in the same manner as Terry-Thomas described in his confession.
A young and ambitious journalist, played by Michale Redgrave, starts investigating the case and soon becomes obsessed with uncovering the truth. He follows Terry-Thomas around, hoping to catch him in the act and prove his guilt.
As the investigation progresses, the journalist uncovers a shocking conspiracy involving a wealthy businessman, a corrupt detective, and a sinister cult. The journalist must race against time to uncover the truth before more innocent lives are lost.
The Crime of the Century is a classic mystery-thriller film that keeps the audience guessing until the very end. The film was directed by George Pollock and released in 1956. It stars Terry-Thomas, Michale Redgrave, and Lionel Jeffries in lead roles.
