The Cloverfield Paradox is a science fiction horror film set in the near future where Earth is suffering from an energy crisis. In an attempt to solve the crisis, a team of international scientists are sent to orbit around a nearby planet to test a particle accelerator called "The Shepard." As they activate the device, they realize that it may not work as intended and instead cause a rupture in the fabric of space-time.
Soon after, strange occurrences begin to happen on the spaceship including gravity fluctuations, communications issues, and eerie visions. The crew soon discovers that they have shifted into an alternate reality where their own lives have taken a different course. They also realize that the particle accelerator has opened a portal to another world that threatens the safety of both Earth and the spaceship.
The crew must navigate through this unknown and dangerous universe while trying to repair their ship and return to their own reality. Along the way, they encounter other stranded astronauts and face numerous obstacles and threats including a malevolent entity that is stalking them.
As tensions mount and sanity is tested, the fate of the crew and the entire planet depends on their ability to use the particle accelerator to close the portal and prevent an interdimensional catastrophe.
