The Clique is a 2008 teen comedy-drama film based on the young adult novel series of the same name by Lisi Harrison. The movie follows the story of 14-year-old Claire Lyons, who moves from Florida to Westchester County, New York, with her family. They move into the guest house of the wealthy Block family, where the patriarch arranges for Claire to attend the same elite private school as his daughter, Massie.
Massie is the leader of a clique of popular girls known as "The Pretty Committee," who are obsessed with fashion, beauty, and social status. The other members of the group include Alicia, Kristen, and Dylan. At first, they make fun of Claire for being different, but soon she realizes that they are the key to fitting in.
Claire tries to become friends with the girls by following their fashion rules, joining their activities, and even disobeying her parents' rules to impress them. However, Massie continues to bully and humiliate Claire, making her perform embarrassing tasks and spreading rumors about her.
Despite the constant torment, Claire continues to seek the approval of The Pretty Committee. Things come to a head when the girls plan a sleepover and exclude Claire from the guest list. However, Claire's resourcefulness saves the day, which results in the girls coming to appreciate her and eventually making her an official member of the group.
