In Love Through Written Words

Drama,Romance  South Korea

The Classic is a South Korean romantic drama film released in 2003. It was directed and co-written by Kwak Jae-yong and stars Son Ye-jin, Jo In-sung, and Cho Seung-woo.

The story follows two parallel love stories. One is between a college student named Joo-hee (played by Son Ye-jin) and her boyfriend Choi Chul-soo (played by Jo In-sung), while the other is between Joo-hee's mother, Ju-jin (also played by Son Ye-jin), and her first love, Joon-ha (played by Cho Seung-woo).

Joo-hee's friend, Hae-soo (played by Lee Sang-in), asks Joo-hee to write love letters to her crush, Sang-min (played by Lee Ki-woo). Joo-hee, who is shy and introverted, agrees to help her friend. She begins writing romantic letters and e-mails to Sang-min, pretending to be Hae-soo. Soon, Sang-min falls in love with the person he thinks is Hae-soo. But when Hae-soo confesses her true identity to him, Sang-min is shocked and hurt.

Meanwhile, Joo-hee discovers some old love letters written by her mother, Ju-jin, to her first love, Joon-ha. Joo-hee becomes fascinated by the story of her mother's past romance, which is similar to her own situation. She begins to learn more about her mother's past and becomes inspired to pursue her own love story with Choi Chul-soo.

The Classic is a beautifully made film that explores the themes of love, sacrifice, and the power of memories. It received positive reviews from critics and audiences alike and is now considered one of the classic love stories in South Korean cinema.
