The protagonist, Jack, is a bitter and disillusioned photographer who has hit a creative rut. His wife is out of town on a business trip, and he plans to spend the weekend alone eating candy and binge-watching TV. However, his plans are disrupted when an old friend, Bill, shows up at his door in a panic.
Bill is in trouble with some dangerous people and needs Jack's help to get out of town. Despite initially wanting to be left alone, Jack reluctantly agrees to help his friend and the two set out on a road trip to safety.
As they drive through the countryside, strange things begin to happen. Bill becomes increasingly paranoid and Jack starts to see ghostly apparitions that he can't explain. The tension between the two men mounts as they realize they are being followed by an unknown force.
As they near their destination, the true nature of the danger they are facing is revealed. Jack and Bill must face their past mistakes and confront their demons if they hope to survive. The Civil Dead is a dark thriller that explores the themes of regret, redemption, and the ghostly remnants of our past.
