The young college student, named Nan Barlow, is a beautiful and intelligent woman who is studying witchcraft as part of her thesis. She arrives in the town of Whitewood, Massachusetts, which is known for its dark and eerie history involving witchcraft and the occult.
Nan checks into the Raven's Inn, a creepy and isolated hotel run by a strange and suspicious woman named Mrs. Newless. The other guests at the hotel are equally peculiar, and Nan begins to wonder if something sinister is going on in the town.
As she delves deeper into her research and explores the town, Nan discovers that Whitewood is actually populated by witches who have been practicing their dark art for centuries. She also learns that the townspeople have made a pact with the devil, sacrificing human lives in exchange for eternal life and power.
Nan becomes a target of the coven, who plan to sacrifice her as a virgin to their dark master in order to gain more power. She enlists the help of a local historian, the handsome and brave Professor Alan Driscoll, and together they attempt to unravel the town's secrets and put an end to the witchcraft.
