The Chronicles of Riddick is a science fiction action film released in 2004, directed by David Twohy and starring Vin Diesel as the eponymous character, Richard B. Riddick. The movie is a sequel to the 2000 film Pitch Black and continues the story of Riddick, a dangerous and elusive criminal with extraordinary abilities.
The film begins with Riddick being tracked down by Kyra, a teenage girl he had mentored in a previous escape. She informs him that a group of mercenaries is after him, looking for information about his past and his connection to an ancient race called the Necromongers. The Necromongers are a powerful and violent army led by the Lord Marshal, who is set on conquering the universe and converting all living beings to his religion.
Riddick eventually confronts the mercenaries and learns that they are being hired by an old acquaintance, a fanatical leader named Aereon. She reveals that Riddick is the only one who can stop the Lord Marshal, as he possesses a rare ability to see things that others cannot. With this knowledge, Riddick sets out to find the Necromonger stronghold and put an end to their plans.
Along the way, Riddick encounters numerous challenges, including a deadly prison planet, a monstrous beast, and a desolate wasteland. He is also reunited with Jack, an orphaned girl he had saved many years ago, who is now grown up and seeking revenge against those who have wronged her. Together, they join forces to fight the Necromongers and save the universe from destruction.
The Chronicles of Riddick features impressive visual effects, intricate world-building, and intense action sequences. It also expands on the mythology established in Pitch Black, revealing more about Riddick's past and his role in the fate of the galaxy. While it received mixed reviews upon release, the film has since gained a cult following and spawned further sequels and spin-offs.
