John Russell, played by George C. Scott, is a composer who recently lost his wife and daughter in a tragic car accident. In an attempt to start fresh, he moves from New York to Seattle and rents a large, old mansion that has been vacant for many years. Russell hopes that the change and seclusion will help him overcome his grief and resume his work.
