The Card Counter is a drama-thriller film directed and written by Paul Schrader. The movie stars Oscar Isaac as William Tell, a former soldier who was jailed for war crimes and now makes a living playing poker in casinos. William Tell is a reserved and enigmatic character who spends his days walking between poker tables and hotel rooms in a lonely, nomadic existence.
One day, William meets a young man named Cirk, played by Tye Sheridan, who is seeking revenge on a military colonel who caused him and his family great pain. Cirk wants William's help to plan and execute his revenge, and in return, promises to split the winnings from a big poker tournament with him.
Initially, William is hesitant to get involved with Cirk's plan, but he is drawn to the young man's anger and vulnerability. They embark on a road trip together, during which William teaches Cirk how to play poker and tries to keep him on the straight and narrow.
