The Canyons is a psychological thriller directed by Paul Schrader and written by Bret Easton Ellis. The film follows the lives of Christian (James Deen), a manipulative and wealthy film producer, and Tara (Lindsay Lohan), his girlfriend who is also an actress. On the surface, their relationship seems perfect, but as the story progresses, we discover that both Christian and Tara are hiding dark secrets.
The film starts with a montage of abandoned movie theaters and decaying film reels, setting the backdrop for a story about the decline of the Hollywood film industry. Tara and Christian's relationship is tested when Tara starts an affair with an aspiring actor named Ryan (Nolan Gerard Funk), whom Christian had hired to work on one of his films. Christian soon discovers their affair and starts to plot his revenge.
As the story develops, we see the characters explore the darker side of their desires. Tara's promiscuity is revealed as she sleeps with multiple partners, including a former boyfriend and a stranger she meets online. Christian's violence and control issues become more apparent as he becomes increasingly jealous and paranoid about Tara's infidelity.
