The Call is a South Korean thriller movie directed by Lee Chung-hyun which was released in 2020. The story revolves around Seo-Yeon, a young woman who moves into her family's old house in the countryside, and Young-Sook, a woman living in the same house but in 1999. Seo-Yeon realizes that the old phone in the house has a special ability to connect her with Young-Sook, and with this, they develop a unique bond.
Seo-Yeon and Young-Sook begin to communicate and share secrets and experiences about their different lives. However, things take an unexpected turn when Seo-Yeon learns that Young-Sook is a notorious and dangerous serial killer, who is still on the loose. Seo-Yeon realizes that the only way to save Young-Sook's future victims is to change her past, which means she must alter the course of events that led to Young-Sook becoming a serial killer.
As Seo-Yeon desperately tries to unravel the mystery of Young-Sook’s past, she becomes haunted by the events that took place in her old house. Along the way, she discovers the true meaning of the phone calls and the price that comes with changing the past.
Through an intense and suspenseful narrative, The Call explores the themes of time travel, redemption, and sacrifice. This movie keeps the audience on the edge of their seats till the very end and offers a surprising twist that is sure to keep them talking long after the credits roll.
