The Butterfly Room is a psychological horror film directed by Jonathan Zarantonello. It stars Barbara Steele as Ann, Heather Langenkamp as Dorothy (Ann's daughter) and Julia Putnam as Alice.

The film revolves around the reclusive and elegant Ann who has an obsession with butterflies. She is befriended by the young and eerily beautiful Alice, who establishes a twisted mother-daughter relationship with Ann. As Ann is lured into Alice's world, she discovers that not only is she not the only recipient of Alice's affections, but that Alice's other lady friends are equally as obsessed with her.

Confronted by these other women, Ann is horrified when they reveal a dark, hidden past that is slowly unchained by a spiral of madness. In order to preserve her harmless and deceptive appearances, Ann must commit brutal and bizarre crimes, which Julie, her next-door neighbor's daughter, begins to discover.

With the inevitable curiosity of a child, Julie explores the corners of Ann's apartment and discovers a dark secret hidden in the walls of the forbidden butterfly room. No one believes what she has seen except Ann's daughter, and they both realize that the fate of the young girl lies in their hands.

As the film progresses, it becomes clear that Ann is not only haunted by her past but is being driven by an otherworldly force that she cannot fully control. The film's climax is both thrilling and disturbing, leaving the viewer questioning everything they thought they knew about Ann, Alice, and the mysterious butterfly room.
