As Jim waits for the execution, he becomes increasingly consumed by his hatred towards the men who killed his wife. He also strikes up a friendship with Josefa Velarde (Joan Collins), a woman who runs a local hotel. As the day of the execution approaches, Jim begins to have doubts about the guilt of the four men, and begins to question his own motives for seeking revenge.
When the hangman arrives, the execution does not go smoothly, and one of the men escapes. Jim decides to set out after the escaped convict himself, and is eventually joined by the other three men who claim their innocence. Together, they track down the real killers, who are revealed to be members of a gang who had been terrorizing the town.
In the final confrontation, Jim is forced to confront his own demons and come to terms with his desire for vengeance. The Bravados is a gripping Western that explores themes of justice, revenge, and redemption, with standout performances from Peck, Boyd, and Van Cleef.
