The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind is a feature film based on the true story of William Kamkwamba, a young boy from a remote village in Malawi. The film is directed by and stars Academy Award-nominated actor Chiwetel Ejiofor.
The story follows William, who lives with his family in a small village in Malawi during a time of drought and famine. Due to their poverty, William is forced to drop out of school, but his curiosity and passion for science and engineering lead him to read books from the local library.
William learns about wind turbines and the potential they have to generate electricity. Using scrap materials like bicycle parts and wood, he invents his own wind turbine that can power a small lightbulb. William's invention gains attention and eventually leads to him being able to attend school again.
The film follows William's struggles as he tries to convince skeptics in his village to help him build a full-scale wind turbine that can irrigate the land and bring water to their crops. Despite facing opposition from his father and other villagers, William perseveres and his invention ultimately saves his family and community from starvation.
