Andreas wakes up in a train station with no recollection of his past. He is soon picked up by a cheerful woman named Ingrid who takes him to a job interview and secures him a position in an office job. Ingrid then takes him to an apartment that is fully furnished and has everything he needs. Andreas's life seems perfect, but he begins to notice that something feels off and he is unable to connect with anyone on a deeper level.
He tries to leave the city by taking a train, but it mysteriously stops and returns to the city. Andreas meets a woman named Anne who shares his sense of dissatisfaction with the city and they begin a romantic relationship. However, they soon discover that they are being watched and punished for any acts of rebellion.
Andreas then meets a man named Hugo who has discovered a crack in his cellar wall that emits beautiful music. Andreas becomes fascinated with the crack and the music and believes that it could lead to the other side, a new world free from the oppressive city. With Anne and Hugo, Andreas concocts a plan to break through the wall and escape to the other side.
