The teenage girl, Hannah, and her younger sister, Lily, are struggling to come to terms with the sudden death of their mother. Despite their grief, they sense that something is not right in their home. Strange occurrences and unexplained phenomena begin to terrorize the girls, and they soon realize that they are not alone in the house.
As they try to unravel the mystery, they discover that their mother had been researching the legend of the boogeyman, a malevolent entity that preys on children. Their father, still lost in his own grief, dismisses their claims as merely figments of their imagination, leaving the girls to fend for themselves.
