The Body Beneath

Horror  United Kingdom

The Body Beneath is a horror movie from 1970, directed by Andy Milligan. The movie takes place in the 19th century England and follows the story of a family of vampires who move into the Carfax Abbey. The family consists of the father, Sebastian (Gavin Reed), his three daughters, Hildegarde (Susan Cassidy), Helene (Jackie Skarvellis), and Rosalind (Rebecca Jordan), and their servant, Carl (Berwick Kaler).

The family's bloodline is threatened by inbreeding, and they urgently need fresh blood to survive. They decide to target the local village and lure young and attractive victims to Carfax Abbey. They also kidnap a mute girl from the village and use her as a servant.

Meanwhile, a young doctor named Paul (Richmond Ross) comes to the village to investigate a recent outbreak of plague. He is initially welcomed by the villagers, but soon discovers the dark secrets of the Carfax Abbey and the threat posed by the vampire family. Paul teams up with a local woman named Anna (Susan Heard) to stop the vampires and save the village.

The movie features a lot of gore, nudity, and sexual content, which were controversial at the time of its release. The low-budget production and amateurish acting add to the movie's campy and cult appeal. The Body Beneath is often considered one of Andy Milligan's best movies and a classic of the horror genre.
