The Blood Drinkers, also known as Kulay Dugo Ang Gabi, is a 1964 Filipino horror film directed by Gerardo de Leon. The film tells the story of Dr Marco, a vampire who is grieving the loss of his beloved Katrina. He conspires with his assistant, Tao, to resurrect Katrina from the dead using a combination of ancient vampiric rituals and modern medical techniques.
The first step of the plan requires Marco and Tao to feast on the blood of several humans, which they do in a series of brutal attacks. As they gather the necessary blood, Marco begins to grow increasingly unstable and dangerous. Meanwhile, Katrina’s father, Dr. Rivera, is investigating the recent attacks and becomes suspicious of Marco and Tao.
As the plan to resurrect Katrina progresses, Marco becomes more desperate and violent, even turning on Tao. Eventually, the plan culminates in the transplant of a human heart into Katrina’s body. However, the procedure does not go as planned, and the resurrected Katrina becomes a wild, uncontrollable creature with a thirst for blood.
The Blood Drinkers is a classic example of Filipino horror cinema, featuring low-budget special effects and a mix of traditional vampire lore and modern science fiction themes. The film is notable for its atmospheric black-and-white cinematography and its depictions of graphic violence and gore.
