The 1988 remake of The Blob stayed true to the basic plot of the original film, but modernized it with updated special effects and a higher level of gore. The story takes place in a small town in Pennsylvania, where a group of teenagers stumble upon a small meteorite that crash lands in the nearby woods. Inside the meteorite is a strange gelatinous substance that soon begins to consume everything in its path, growing larger and more deadly as it devours its victims.
The town sheriff, played by Kevin Dillon, initially dismisses the teenagers' claims of a deadly creature on the loose, but soon realizes that something truly terrifying is happening in his town. As the Blob continues to grow and consume more and more people, the military arrives on the scene to contain the creature and cover up the evidence.
The film features a number of memorable scenes, including a sequence at a movie theater where the Blob engulfs and devours dozens of unlucky moviegoers, and a climactic showdown at a supermarket where the Blob faces off against a group of survivors armed with improvised weapons. Overall, the remake of The Blob received mixed reviews from critics, but has developed a cult following over the years.
