The Birdcatcher follows the story of Esther, a young Jewish girl living in Norway during World War II. When the Nazis invade Norway, Esther is forced to flee with her family to a remote farmhouse in the countryside. However, her family is soon betrayed and captured, leaving Esther as the only survivor.
To stay alive in a country controlled by the enemy, Esther assumes a new identity as a Christian and takes refuge with a group of Resistance fighters. Under the guise of a farm girl, she is trained to blend in with the locals and avoid detection by the Nazi soldiers.
As if her situation isn't dire enough, Esther also has to deal with the guilt of leaving her family behind and the constant fear of being discovered. Despite the danger, she continues to navigate her way through the challenges of survival and tries to find a way to eventually reunite with her family.
