The mistaken identity leads to the Dude being roughed up by a group of men demanding money owed by the millionaire Lebowski's wife, Bunny. When the Dude confronts the millionaire Lebowski to help resolve the situation, he is instead offered a job to deliver a ransom for the kidnapped Bunny.
Along the way, the Dude is reunited with his bowling team, consisting of Walter, a Vietnam War veteran with a short fuse, and Donny, a naive and quiet man who is often overlooked. The trio encounters a variety of odd characters, including the nihilistic trio who initially roughed up the Dude, the pornographer Jackie Treehorn, and the mysterious stranger who seems to be watching their every move.
