The Big Green is a family comedy movie that was released in 1995. The movie was directed by Holly Goldberg Sloan and produced by Walt Disney Pictures. The film stars Olivia d'Abo as Anna, a British schoolteacher who arrives in a small Texas town to teach at a local school. Anna finds that her students are bored and disinterested in class, and she decides to introduce them to the game of soccer.
At first, the children are terrible at the game, with no coordination or skill. However, Anna and her assistant, former football star Jay Huffer (played by Steve Guttenberg), start to whip them into shape. As the soccer team practices and improves, they begin to build their self-esteem and confidence.
The team goes on to compete against other local teams, and though they face many challenges, they ultimately become a united and formidable team. Meanwhile, Anna and Jay become popular and beloved members of the community, helping the children with their personal problems and even mediating family disputes.
The movie was shot on location in Elgin and Bastrop, Texas, and features a soundtrack that includes classic American rock songs. The Big Green was well-received by critics and audiences alike, and it remains a popular family movie to this day.
