The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel follows a group of British retirees who decide to travel to India to spend their sunset years in a luxurious hotel touted as a welcoming haven for elderly people. The hotel is run by the enthusiastic and charismatic young owner, Sonny, who always speaks optimistically about his homeland.
However, upon arrival, the retirees find that the hotel is not as palatial as they were led to believe. The building is dilapidated and the rooms are small and cramped. Despite this setback, they gradually begin to settle in and form bonds with each other while exploring the vibrant and colorful culture of India.
Each character has their own story to tell, from Muriel Donnelly, a retired housekeeper who is forced to have a hip replacement surgery in India due to the long waiting list back home, to Graham Dashwood, who travels to India to look for love and finds it in the most unexpected place.
