Wild Racing Dreams at St. Trinian's

Comedy  United Kingdom

The Belles of St. Trinian's is a comedy film released in 1954, directed by Frank Launder and starring Alastair Sim, Joyce Grenfell, George Cole, and Hermione Baddeley. The film is set in an all-girls school called St. Trinian's, where the students are more interested in horse racing and gambling than academics.

The school is run by the hapless and absent-minded Miss Fritton (played by Alastair Sim) and her brother Clarence (also played by Alastair Sim), who is a con man and helps the schoolgirls in their get-rich-quick schemes. The students form a betting syndicate, using their knowledge of racing form to make bets on horse races. They also engage in other schemes, such as selling fake religious relics and concocting a fake charity to raise money.

Despite the chaos and mischief caused by the students, the faculty is oblivious to their activities, until a new headmistress, Miss Camilla Fritton (also played by Alastair Sim), arrives to take over the school. Miss Camilla is a strict disciplinarian and immediately clashes with her brother and the rebellious students.

The film follows the antics of the St. Trinian's girls as they try to outsmart Miss Camilla and continue their schemes. The Belles of St. Trinian's was a commercial success and spawned a series of sequels. It is considered a classic British comedy and is known for its irreverent humor and anarchic spirit.
