The Beat That My Heart Skipped is a French film that follows the story of Tom, a man who is torn between his job as a real estate agent and his passion for music. Tom's father is a notorious real estate developer who uses ruthless tactics to acquire properties in Paris.

Despite his involvement in his father's shady business deals, Tom yearns to pursue his dream of becoming a concert pianist. He starts taking piano lessons from a Chinese piano teacher and begins practicing rigorously.

Meanwhile, Tom's job becomes increasingly demanding and dangerous, with one of his colleagues gunned down by a rival gang. Tom grows increasingly conflicted as the pressures of his job threaten to derail his aspirations in music.

One day, while attending a piano audition, Tom meets a beautiful young pianist named Miao Lin, who agrees to help him practice for the audition. Though they cannot communicate verbally because Miao Lin does not speak French, their shared passion for music brings them together.

Tom's life comes to a head when he is tasked with evicting a group of refugees from a building his father is trying to acquire. Tom's conscience is ultimately stirred, leading to a dramatic series of events that will determine the course of his life.

The film is a compelling exploration of identity, passion, and the sense of purpose that drives us to pursue our dreams. It stars Romain Duris as Tom, with contributions from Niels Arestrup, Emmanuelle Devos, and Linh Dan Pham. It is directed by Jacques Audiard.
