The movie follows the journey of a Soviet tank crew led by the ruthless officer, Daskal, who are lost in the mountains of Afghanistan and become engaged in a deadly battle with a group of Mujahadeen guerrillas. The crew is comprised of a diverse group of soldiers, including the tank driver, Koverchenko, who is new to the group and struggles to fit in with the others.
As the crew becomes increasingly isolated and desperate, tensions rise among them and they begin to question Daskal’s leadership. The group encounters a local Afghan family and begins to form a bond with them, which further complicates their mission.
The battle between the tank crew and the guerrillas intensifies, as both sides inflict heavy casualties on each other. Along the way, the crew members must also confront their own personal demons and grapple with the human cost of war.
The Beast of War is a brutal and unflinching portrayal of the horrors of war, as well as the complex relationships that develop between enemies on the battlefield. Despite its graphic violence, the film also contains moments of compassion, humor, and humanity, making it a powerful exploration of the human experience during conflict.
