Hawser reluctantly agrees, but soon regrets his decision when he discovers that Carol is pregnant. He becomes furious and refuses to open his lock until he finds out who the father is. Meanwhile, a long line of barges starts to pile up behind him, causing chaos and frustration for the other bargees.

As the situation becomes more and more desperate, Hemel and Carol decide to confess the truth to Hawser. In the end, Hawser forgives them and opens his lock, allowing the barges to continue their journey.

Throughout the film, there are several comedic moments and misunderstandings, as well as some touching scenes that explore the relationships between the characters. The Bargee is a lighthearted and entertaining comedy that provides a glimpse into the unique culture and way of life on the English canals.
