The movie follows the story of Tom Lynn (Ian McShane), a young man who becomes enamored with the voluptuous and cruel Queen of the Faeries, played by Ava Gardner. She bewitches him and takes him away from his normal life, and he becomes her lover and servant.
However, Tom realizes that he is unhappy and wants to leave the Queen and her realm. He meets a beautiful young woman, Janet (Stephanie Beacham), and falls in love with her. Janet soon becomes pregnant with Tom's child.
The Queen of the Faeries does not take kindly to Tom's newfound love and desire for freedom, and sets out to exact revenge. She demands he be sacrificed in a ritual, but Janet refuses to give up without a fight.
The Ballad of Tam Lin is a haunting and romantic tale of love, loss, and the struggle of one man to break free from the shackles of enchantment and captivity. The movie also features gorgeous cinematography and a hauntingly beautiful soundtrack, making it a classic of the 1970s British film scene.
