The Bad Sleep Well is a 1960 Japanese film directed by Akira Kurosawa. It is loosely based on Shakespeare's Hamlet but set in post-World War II Japan. The film follows Kôichi Nishi, the illegitimate son of a former executive of a powerful corporation who committed suicide after being framed for embezzlement. Nishi is on a mission to uncover the truth behind his father's death and avenge him.

Nishi makes his way up the ladder in the company, eventually marrying the crippled daughter of the company's vice president, Iwabuchi. The wedding reception is a lavish event, with a massive cake in the shape of the corporation's headquarters. An unexpected guest arrives, bringing to light some unpleasant details about Nishi's father's suicide, and things quickly spiral out of control.

Nishi manages to gather evidence of corruption and embezzlement within the company and uses it to bring down Iwabuchi and his allies. Along the way, he is manipulated and betrayed by his own allies, including his wife.

The Bad Sleep Well is a tense and gripping thriller that explores themes of revenge, corruption, and justice. Kurosawa's masterful direction and Toshiro Mifune's powerful performance as Nishi make this a must-see for fans of Japanese cinema.
