The Bad Seed Returns is a 2018 psychological horror film directed by Rob Lowe. The movie is a sequel to the 1956 classic, The Bad Seed, based on the novel of the same name by William March. The Bad Seed Returns picks up several years after the events of the first movie, and follows the story of Emma, the daughter of the original movie's killer.
Emma (played by McKenna Grace) is now a teenage girl who is trying to navigate through the pressures of high school. She lives with her aunt Angela (played by Patty McCormack, who played Rhoda in the original movie) since her father was killed by her mother in the first movie. Angela's husband, Richard (played by Mark-Paul Gosselaar), begins to suspect that Emma may not be as innocent as she appears, and suggests that she be sent away to a boarding school.
At school, Emma meets a new girl, Mackenzie (played by Jocelyn Hudon), who seems to know Emma's deepest secrets. Emma soon realizes that Mackenzie is a threat to her, and she reverts to her old ways, trying to take care of her enemies by any means necessary. Emma's behavior becomes increasingly dangerous, causing those around her to fear for their safety.
As Emma's behavior spirals out of control, Angela and Richard begin to uncover the truth about Emma's past. They realize that Emma is not just a troubled teenager, but a dangerous killer. The movie builds to a chilling conclusion as Emma's true nature is revealed and her family is forced to confront the dark legacy of the past.
