The Art of Racing in the Rain is a 2019 American comedy-drama film directed by Simon Curtis and written by Mark Bomback, based on the 2008 novel of the same name by author Garth Stein. The film stars Milo Ventimiglia as Denny Swift, a race car driver who adopts Enzo (voiced by Kevin Costner) as a puppy. Enzo, a golden retriever, is a very intuitive dog with a near-human soul, who begins to evaluate his life and the people around him.

However, just as Denny's racing career is taking off, Eve falls ill with cancer and ultimately passes away. Denny is left to care for Zoe on his own, while also fighting a custody battle with his in-laws who want to take Zoe away from him.
As Enzo watches Denny navigate through these difficult times, he learns the importance of love, loyalty, and perseverance. Enzo also has a passion for racing and shares Denny's passion for speed, often watching old racing videos with him.
In the end, Denny wins the custody battle and fulfills his dream of winning the biggest race of his career. Enzo, who is now an old dog, passes away with the knowledge that his owner and family will be okay because of what they learned from him.
