The Apple is a 1980 science-fiction musical film directed by Menahem Golan and produced by Cannon Films. Set in a dystopian future of the year 1994, the movie tells an allegorical story of a world controlled by a corrupt and manipulative music industry mogul named Mr. Boogalow. Alphie and Bibi are two naïve and optimistic young performers from Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, who dream of stardom.

Their chance comes when they audition for the WorldVision Song Festival, a televised competition that is the biggest event in the music industry. Alphie and Bibi's catchy song "Love" impresses the judges and wins them the top prize, beating out the favorite, the wild and flamboyant BIM ("Boogalow International Music") duo of Dandi and Pandi.

Mr. Boogalow, who owns BIM, sees the potential of Alphie and Bibi's wholesome and innocent image and signs them to a contract. Soon, the two singers are transformed into glamorous and provocatively dressed pop stars, performing in huge halls filled with screaming fans.

As their popularity skyrockets, so does the price they have to pay for fame. They become addicted to drugs, including the strange and potent "apple" substance that Mr. Boogalow provides, and suffer the consequences of their hedonistic lifestyle. Meanwhile, Dandi and Pandi, bitter from their defeat, hatch a plot to bring down BIM and Mr. Boogalow.

With its colorful and campy production design, outrageous costumes, and catchy disco-pop songs, The Apple has become a cult classic of its era, renowned for its over-the-top cheesiness and social commentary on the dangers of consumerism and conformity.
