The film begins with Red (voiced by Jason Sudeikis) still living on Bird Island and being hailed as a hero after saving the island from the green pigs in the previous movie. However, when a mysterious purple bird named Zeta (voiced by Leslie Jones) decides to target both Bird Island and Piggy Island with her advanced technology, the birds and pigs reluctantly team up to stop her.
Red, Chuck (voiced by Josh Gad), and Bomb (voiced by Danny McBride) are joined by new characters Silver (voiced by Rachel Bloom) and Garry (voiced by Sterling K. Brown) on their mission. The group travels to Eagle Island, where they meet with Leonard (voiced by Bill Hader) and his army of pigs.
As they begin to investigate Zeta's plans, the group discovers that she plans to trigger a volcanic eruption that will destroy both Bird Island and Piggy Island, allowing her to take over both. With the clock ticking, the birds and pigs work together to find a way to stop Zeta and save their homes.
Throughout the movie, the characters face various obstacles, including dangerous lava flows and enemy birds on Eagle Island. They also confront their own personal issues, such as Chuck's fear of commitment and Red's struggle to trust others.
In the end, the birds and pigs successfully stop Zeta and save their homes, but not without learning valuable lessons about teamwork and putting aside their differences for the greater good. The film ends with a dance party featuring both the birds and pigs, symbolizing their newfound unity.
