The Alibi is a 2006 comedic crime film directed by Matt Checkowski and Kurt Mattila. The film follows the story of Ray Elliot (played by Steve Coogan), a con man who decides to leave his life of crime behind to start a legitimate business selling fake alibis to clients who have cheated on their significant others.
Ray is a smooth-talking con man who has made a living off of swindling people for years. He is approached by his friend and former partner in crime, Jerry (played by Sam Elliott), who suggests they start a new venture together. Jerry proposes they start a business selling fake alibis to people who need an excuse for their infidelity. Ray sees the potential in the idea and decides to go for it.
As the business grows, Ray hires an attractive assistant named Lola (played by Rebecca Romijn) to help him with the workload. Lola is a hardworking and ambitious woman who quickly becomes Ray's right-hand woman. She helps him run the business and keeps him organized.
However, things take a turn for the worse when one of Ray's most influential clients, Wendell Hatch (played by James Marsden), is murdered and Ray becomes the prime suspect. The police, led by Detective Bryce (played by John Leguizamo), begin to investigate and Ray realizes that his fake alibi business may have landed him in hot water.
To make matters worse, an assassin called "The Mormon" (played by Antonio Banderas) is also on Ray's trail. The Mormon is a cold-blooded killer who has been hired to take out Ray by one of his former clients.
Ray, Lola, and Jerry must work together to clear their names and find out who really killed Wendell Hatch. As they navigate through a dangerous web of lies and deceit, they begin to realize that their alibi business may not have been such a good idea after all. With time running out, Ray and Lola must race against the clock to find the killer and clear their names before it's too late.
