The Silent Songbird: A Tale of Lost Voices

Science Fiction,Drama  Argentina

The Aerial is a surreal and allegorical film set in a city where every citizen has lost their voice. The cause of this mysterious affliction is not explained, but it has resulted in a society where communication is a laborious and impersonal process. People communicate by mouthing words that are spelled out in the air, or by writing on paper.

The only person who has retained the use of her voice is La Voz, a singer who works for the city's sole TV channel. Her employer, Mr. TV, desires her and tries to coerce her into performing for him alone, but she refuses. La Voz wears a hood over her head, which hides her face and makes her a mystery to everyone.

La Voz has a son named Tomás, who is a feral and inquisitive child. He lives alone in a house on the outskirts of the city, and has never seen the outside world. Despite his blindness, Tomás also has a voice, which he uses to communicate with his mother and explore the world around him.

One day, Tomás receives a letter addressed to his house that is mistakenly delivered to a neighbouring house, where Ana lives. Ana is curious about Tomás and begins to communicate with him by spelling out words in the air. They quickly become friends, and Ana starts to bring Tomás food and other supplies.

As Tomás and Ana get to know each other, they start to uncover the history of their city and the true nature of its affliction. They discover that Mr. TV is keeping the populace voiceless for political reasons, and that La Voz has been secretly working against him all along. In the film's climactic scene, the citizens of the city rise up against Mr. TV, and their collective voices return, heralding a brighter future.
