The Admiral: Roaring Currents is a South Korean film that was released in 2014. The movie is directed by Kim Han-min and produced by Han Jae-duk. It stars Choi Min-sik as Yi Sun-sin, Ryu Seung-ryong, Cho Jin-woong, and Jin Goo.
The film is set during the Japanese invasion of Korea in the late 16th century. The Japanese have already occupied most of the Korean peninsula, and they are now planning a final assault on the Joseon Dynasty. The Japanese fleet, which consists of over 300 warships, is heading towards the Myeongryang Strait off the southwest coast of the Korean Peninsula. Admiral Yi Sun-sin, who is in charge of the Korean navy, is determined to stop the Japanese fleet from reaching their destination.
Despite overwhelming odds, Admiral Yi manages to rally his men and comes up with a daring plan to defeat the Japanese fleet. He orders his men to form a defensive line and use a special maneuver called the "crane wing" formation to trap the Japanese ships in a narrow space between two islands. Using his knowledge of the tides and currents in the area, Yi manages to inflict heavy damage on the Japanese fleet, sinking a total of 133 ships.
The movie is known for its realistic portrayal of the battle and its historical accuracy. It also received critical acclaim for its visual effects and action sequences. The Admiral: Roaring Currents became the highest-grossing film in South Korean cinema history at the time of its release, and it remains one of the country's most successful films.
