The 10th Victim is a 1965 Italian science-fiction film directed by Elio Petri. The movie is set in a dystopian future where violence and wars are avoided by hosting legal hunting games called the Big Hunt. The Big Hunt allows individuals with violent tendencies to take part in what has become the most popular form of entertainment in the world.
In the movie, the Big Hunt is televised globally, and each participant is given ten rounds, five as the hunter and five as the victim. The hunters and victims are assigned randomly, and the prize to the winner is one million dollars.
The main character, Marcello Poletti (played by Marcello Mastroianni), is a veteran of the Big Hunt, having already won nine rounds as a hunter. As he enters his tenth round, he feels bored with the game and wants to retire from it. He, however, decides to take on the challenge one last time when he learns that his opponent for the tenth round is a seductive woman named Caroline Meredith (played by Ursula Andress).
The two become embroiled in a game of cat-and-mouse, with both trying to outsmart the other and claim victory. Along the way, they encounter several obstacles, including a group of activists against the Big Hunt and a conspiracy within the game itself.
The 10th Victim is a satirical take on society's obsession with violence and fame.
