Adrien Dufourquet, played by Jean-Paul Belmondo, is a French soldier stationed in Morocco. He receives news that he has been granted an eight-day leave to visit his fiancée Agnès, played by Françoise Dorléac, in Paris. Upon arrival, Adrien finds that Agnès is excitedly planning a trip to Brazil with her father's old friend, Professor Catalan.
However, Adrien's plans are derailed when he learns that Catalan has been kidnapped by a group of Amazon tribesmen. The kidnappers are demanding the return of an ancient, valuable statue that was kept in the museum where Catalan worked. The statue was said to be a key to a hidden treasure in the Amazon jungle.
Adrien and Agnès set off to track down the kidnappers in Brazil, facing a series of dangerous and exciting adventures along the way. The couple encounters several dangerous characters, including a mysterious villain, a group of corrupt military officers, and a beautiful French woman who seems to be caught up in the plot.
As they search for Catalan and the missing statue, Adrien and Agnès travel through the streets of Rio de Janeiro, the jungles of the Amazon, and the mountains of Peru. Along the way, they face threats from deadly snakes, treacherous waterfalls, and armed gunmen.
Despite the danger, the couple perseveres in their quest, eventually finding the statue and unraveling the mystery behind the hidden treasure. In the end, Adrien and Agnès return to France as heroes, having saved Professor Catalan and uncovered a priceless artifact that had been lost to history.
